Field and Laboratory Characterization of Waste Residuals and Foundation Soils

Contains 4 Component(s), Includes Credits Includes Multiple Live Events. The next is on 10/01/2026 at 6:00 AM (MDT)

This two-day, in-person workshop provides an integrated overview of field and laboratory methods for characterizing foundation soils and waste residuals, with emphasis on the information needed to support geotechnical evaluation and design of dams, earth structures, and tailings or waste-storage facilities. Leading experts from academia and industry will discuss laboratory characterization, geophysical methods, cone penetration testing (CPT), vane shear testing, sampling quality and disturbance, emerging approaches such as nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and advanced CPT interpretation, and practical case studies.

Public Safety and Security Practices in Dam Operations

Contains 4 Component(s), Includes Credits Includes Multiple Live Events. The next is on 09/30/2026 at 6:00 AM (MDT)

This two-day workshop provides participants with practical knowledge and tools to identify, assess, and manage public safety and security risks at dam facilities. Through classroom instruction and real-world examples, attendees will learn how to develop effective safety and security programs, conduct risk assessments, and implement mitigation strategies. The workshop concludes with a half-day technical tour of Morgan Falls Dam, where participants will observe public safety and security features in practice and apply course concepts during a facilitated wrap-up session.

    2026 Internal Erosion Workshop (DLS-208)

Contains 7 Component(s), Includes Credits Includes Multiple Live Events. The next is on 09/30/2026 at 6:00 AM (MDT)

Internal Erosion Workshop (DLS-208) establishes the essential skills for assessing internal erosion potential failure modes in support of dam and levee risk assessments. It provides pertinent background related to physics and mechanics of internal erosion mechanisms, summarizes important case histories, and identifies best practices for estimating probabilities of failure during a risk analysis. Physics-based analytical models of the RMC Internal Erosion Suite of toolboxes are central to assessing internal erosion potential failure modes, and an in-depth understanding of their application is essential to informing judgment for sound and consistent RIDM
